Title: Cut wolf trees for Fuel, make way for better trees

Artist: Earle Winslow

Date: 1945

Size: 12.5"x18"

Comments: WWII era forest conservation poster by US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. Great graphics of logger in woods, lovely color. A wolf tree is a large tree that usually developed in the open with an undesirable form (from a logger's perspective) since the trunks aren't good for lumber and they shade out nearby younger trees. These trees are generally culled for firewood to make space for trees that will have straight branchless trunks (my thanks for this info from a forestry specialist!)
