Title: Monk's Hood from "La Plante et Ses Applications Ornamentale", by Eugene Grasset, published by Eugene Levy
Artist: E Hervegh
Size: Image 10"x14.5", Sheet 13"x18"
Comments: Very scarce color print from famed Art Noveau French portfolio which devoted to modern artistic designs inspired by specific plants and flowers. The noted poster artist Grasset oversaw the contributions by a number of different artists in this work. This is a "pochoir" print, a uniquely French process which used watercolors applied by stencil to produce rich color and subtle detail. Pochoir was a very expensive and demanding process, and modern techniques cannot simulate the subtle quality of these original prints. These rare Art Nouveau pochoirs are vastly more beautiful and richly colored than the photo suggests!
Condition: Fine, this is the full untrimmed sheet (the border slightly larger than photo suggests), excellent color and fine paper quality, very slight wear at sheet edges. Unmatted and unframed.
